Rivalry Games in College Football

In the spririt of this weekend's rivalry game, the Red River Shootout taking place in the beautiful city of Dallas, I started to think about some of the best rivalrys in college football. Most likely your opinion on this matter largely depends on where you grew up. Do you think someone who went to Navy would reference any other game except the Army-Navy Game? If you are from the left coast you might say the best rivalry game is when a team like USC matches up against a solid Notre Dame squad. Likewise, if you are from the mid-west you may site the Michigan-Ohio State game as the best rivalry in college football even though lately the Big 10 has been the red headed step child of the major conferences. It works that way anywhere you go. Ask any football enthusiast in the state of Alabama his or her thought on the question. If they don't respond Auburn-Alabama, I'd be shocked.

For me personally it's hard to argue against the Red River Shootout between Texas and OU. The two teams are always highly ranked and there are usually National Championship Implications on the line. As an alumni from TAMU it's hard to admit this with all of the TAMU rival opponents; however, I challenge anyone to dispute the greatness that takes place at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

A&M is the only thing that matters.

I could care less about Carneys or some fake sip from the valley.

Dear Cypress011,

I think this is what i was talking about when I mentioned disillusioned aggies a few posts back.

Oh, and you're an idiot.

AshJoy from Aggieyell post better stuff than you. They usually start with lol or Omg.

Sometimes the group must overtake the creator for the benefit of the society. I think that time is fast approaching.

Dear Cypress011,

Once again, you're and idiot. I'm not sure who your cyber internet buddy is or what the two of you have together, but i really couldn't care less. The thought of a mutiny is kinda funny to me because if you decided to "overtake the creator," you might have to post something instead of just offering your "brilliant" comments.

What a blasphemous post.

Yeah so OU and Texas play football every year in Dallas. The Texas- A&M rivalry goes much deeper. It's between academics. All sports not just football. Conservatism Vs. Liberalism. Texas fight Vs. The Aggie war hymm.

The only thing that makes the OU-Texas game anything is that for the past 10 years they have both been good. Other than that it's just a game played between two schools that has been commercialised due to the draw to the t-shirt fans from their respective states.

Coscaggie,

The original poster does not wear an Aggie ring, thus he fails to understand many things about the aggies.

It's basically all that is good vs evil.

I will have to disagree; respectfully of course, in the argument the UT-TAMU rivalry outmatches the UT-OU rivalry. I probably should have prefaced the post with the words Best National Rivalry to avoid some confusion. Nevertheless, I do sincerely appreciate a well thought-out comment rather than some of the mindless half thoughts from Cypress011.

Now i'm as big an ATM fan as anyone, but the winner of the best College FOOTBALL rivalry has to go to the Red River Shootout.

First, all of the points in the initial paragraph are valid to those who live in Texas. Also, the amount of talent on the field is not even a comparison. Lastly, I would agree the Shootout is very commercialize, but that's because it has National Championship Implications. The two teams have 11 national championships between them. I'm not a huge supporter of either one of these schools; however, you can't ignore the importance.
